Guimarães and Braga
The oldest portuguese cities
Let`s explore two of the most ancient portuguese cities.
Guimarães is considered by many as the birthplace of Portugal, it is one of the strongest possibilities as birth place of our first king Afonso Henriques.
This town, flooded by history, we will visit Paço (Palace) dos Duques de Bragança from the 15th century in Burgundian style, the only one in Portugal, the Castle with origins from the 10TH century, and we shell discover some secrets that this stones (some of them from the 20th century) have to tell. With a walking visit to the historic center of Guimarães we will conclude our passing thru all the place that are World Heritage.
In Braga, city of Archbishops, we will visit it`s Cathedral, the oldest in Portugal, the historic center with it´s medieval streets, palaces and gardens. We will walk thru some Roman ruins of Bracara August, one of the most important of the Roman Empire.
We will go to the top of Bom Jesus Mount where we will see some magnificent churches and sanctuaries.
Lunch in one the finest restaurants of Portuguese cuisine.
